Daniel Mettler posted a question:
The product resembles XMod in many features. What are the core differences, or what could make us prefer Universal List to XMod?
Dear Daniel Mettler
We not created copy of xmod. As you see it is different a lot in functions and interface and "how it works". We created this module for our clients. This is what our clients said:
"Other modules I tested are more powerful in building forms (Xmod,ListX, enterprises forms) but they didn't seem to be easy to learn andmanaging data with them requires knowing SQL. Régis Mathon"
"I think allowing use of tables for your data, the security featuresand base pieces of your module as they are, makes this a great Module, better than XMOD in some ways. I can pull reports, use relationaltables etc. With a few tweaks this will be an excellent module. Don Schaening"
"Personally, I am interested in building my application using UL (I havecreated it using Xmod, but their security features are too limited for me). Adam Greenberg"
"I can only imagine the possibilities. It is the most flexible and easy touse module I have used/tested. I like it much better than XMod. Keith Furnas"
Daniel,
I also think the technical level of the user, desire to store data in the database, desired features, and speed will go into a decision when comparing application and form builders.
There are some great products out there - and each fits a set of needs. We think our key differentiators are ease of use (install and set up), speed (fewer page reloads using Ajax and JS), and general approach (pick a table and start editing).
While there are many things Xmod can do that Universal List cannot, you need to have a greater knowledge of XML, XSLT, SQL, etc to use those features. If you want to build an application or edit a table in minutes, we think Universal List is your best option.
